Day in the life of a Very Busy Mamá Medifast

We asked Maria, who blogs at Very Busy Mama, to share how she lost weight with Medifast before her second pregnancy and how she now balances post-pregnancy weight loss with Medifast, a busy career and two little ones. Read more to learn about Maria’s very busy life!

Last year, I lost 23 lbs* with Medifast before becoming pregnant with my second child. I made the conscious decision to lose weight in order to have a healthier pregnancy and avoid pre-eclampsia like I had with my first.

I felt AMAZING! It was unreal; even my husband could not believe just how much weight I had lost. Medifast makes it easy to stick to and, if followed correctly, it WORKS!

But we are human. You get cravings, you get tempted and then it’s a domino effect. I had to get back on the Medifast wagon a few times and then push through the plateaus. I was thrilled to be at a healthy weight when I went off Medifast during my pregnancy. I gained pregnancy weight slowly, which was a huge change from the first time.

However, the pounds really came on at the very end of my second pregnancy and I was feeling heavy and bloated. After my daughter was born in January of this year, everyone commented on how great I looked. It was great to hear, but I didn’t feel the same.
This week my daughter is three months and a month ago I decided to get back on Medifast. The first two weeks were easy. YES, I said easy. I couldn’t believe how I was just cruising through and I lost 7 lbs.

But then I went back to my regular life, doing freelance writing and blogging. I got a gig with Disney Baby and suddenly I was mega busy again. We took my four-year-old son out of preschool and I suddenly found myself with TWO kids, writing deadlines to meet and endless amounts of laundry, bottles, and trips to the playground.

Eating? No time for that. With Medifast, you are supposed to eat every 2-3 hours, but some days I would go 3, 4 even half a day without eating. When I did finally get a chance to eat, having just one Medifast Meal was not enough, so I would eat more and not from the plan. Things were not looking good.

But now I am back at it. I said “No more excuses” and I started fresh. My plan is to lose at least 20 lbs before starting my marathon training, which will be intense. (I’m doing the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. in October.) Despite still being busy, I am making an effort to take the five minutes to prepare my meals and EAT. Otherwise it’s not going to work, plain and simple.

*Results vary. Typical weight loss on the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan® is 2-5 lbs per week for the first 2 weeks and 1-2 lbs per week thereafter.
