This year the 13th annual Women’s Health and Fitness Day falls on Wednesday, September 24.
More than 1,000 organizations throughout the U.S. will be hosting women’s health and fitness events with an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 women expected to participate.
This day is meant to remind women of the importance of regular exercise and healthy habits through events such as health seminars, exercise demonstrations, group exercise classes, health screenings, and other workshops. Activities will be taking place nationwide at senior centers, hospitals, health clubs, parks, schools, and other organizations raising awareness about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
This Wednesday, remind yourself how rewarding it is to engage in physical activity and replenish your body with healthy, beneficial nutrients. Getting physical activity can be as easy as taking an evening walk around the neighborhood with your family or as intense as a spin class at your local gym. Identify a type of physical activity you enjoy, such as hiking, roller skating, or swimming, and commit to doing it regularly. As you begin to add more physical activity into your day, be sure to fuel your body with nutrient-rich foods. Try a Medifast Meal, cottage cheese with blueberries, yogurt, or a low-fat cheese stick with an apple for a great pre- and post-workout snack. Look for special events at community organizations and join thousands of other women in promoting health and exercise.
This unique day is also a part of the new National Women’s Health and Fitness Week which is held the last week in September, so look for events to be continuing throughout the week. Encourage yourself and other women to make time for daily physical activity and smart health choices that will strengthen the body and nourish the mind.
